Cragwood Stable Trophy Exhibit
Charles W. Engelhard, Jr. was a businessman who took over the family business in 1950 after his father passed away. In 1958, Charles W. Engelhard, Jr. consolidated the family’s many diversified holdings to form Engelhard Industries, Inc. as a publicly held company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. He also expanded the company’s product line to serve the automotive, petroleum, chemical, electronics, aerospace, aviation, glass, and synthetic fiber industries. One of his hobbies became horse racing and his stable, Cragwood, was quite successful. Two of Cragwood’s best were American Grass Champions, Assagai and Hawaii.
Charles W. Engelhard, Jr. died in 1971. Mrs. Charles Englehard presented, as a gift to the Hall of Fame, a large collection of American Racing Trophies that were won by the horses of the Cragwood Stables. The trophies are for races won from 1962-1976.
